The Family of Frank Mickler Henderson are sad to share his passing on the morning of June 12th, after a long battle with Stomach Cancer.
He was a loving husband and father, a child of God, a hard worker, a humble man, as awesome artist, a technical savant, a loyal friend, a respectful son and son in-law, a kind brother, a Navy Veteran, a witty wordsmith, a constant tinkerer, a curious learner, a voracious reader, a didactic uncle, and an amazing human. Frank was a man of faith. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible to learn everything that he could about his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Frank was born February 4th, 1965, about 12 minutes before his twin sister Frances. He was born as the 4th child of Martha-Ruth Gibbs Henderson and Raymon Henderson both of Jasper, FL. Frank's middle name was a thank you to Dr. Mickler, as Frank and Frances were the first twins born in the new Jasper Hospital. He was also named for his paternal Grandfather Frank Melvin Henderson.
Frank and the family resided outside of Jasper, near Bell Pond, on land once owned by ancestor Daniel Bell. There they lived until 1972, when Raymon moved the Family to Crystal River, FL to work with Florida Power. The family moved back to Jasper in 1980 to be closer to his maternal grandparents.
After graduating from Hamilton County High School in 1983, Frank decided to join the United States Navy, to serve his country, and see the world. On a trip home while on shore leave, Frank met the love of his life Penelope Clayton, at Mike's IGA, it was love at first sight and the rest is history. Frank and Penelope married in of 1987, and moved to Norfolk, VA where he was stationed on the USS Truett for the next two and a half years. Frank did multiple deployments overseas during his 6 years of service as an electronic tech. He was also stationed in San Diego CA, Charleston SC, and Boston MA. Frank enjoyed his years in the Navy, and was able to see a lot of our world that he would not have seen otherwise. After faithfully serving his country, Frank left the Navy in 1989 to start a new chapter of his life.
He worked for the Florida State Prison and Hamilton Correction Institute for 2 years before going to work for Fresenius Medical Care for the next 16 years. Frank utilized his technical skills to become the maintenance director for Live Oak. Working in Trenton, Alachua, Gainesville, or wherever his help was needed to fix a dialysis machine.
In 1991, Frank & Penelope welcomed their first son Matthew Nash Henderson. Their lives immediately changed, moving back to the family homestead in Jasper to build a home of their own. In 1995 they welcomed their second son, Nicholas Ethan Henderson. Frank loved being a Dad, and through the growth of his children he was their biggest advocate, supporter, and hype man. He loved his boys more than life itself.
In 2009 Frank went to work for the City of Jasper, working as a Water & Wastewater Operator for the next 14 years. The last 4 years he worked for Hamilton County part time then full time as their Water & Wastewater Operator. He advocated for system changes, safety protocols, and better service to the community, through long hours and fatiguing tasks. Frank took a lot of pride in his work, making the system work effectively and efficiently, to give Hamilton County safe water.
Frank had many talents and hobbies, mostly fishing, drawing, tinkering, and making beautiful life size fish, gators and mermaids, or whatever he thought up to make out of old barn wood. If you were lucky to receive one of them, you have a beautiful piece of art.
He is preceded in Death by his parents Raymon & Martha Ruth Gibbs Henderson & his oldest Sister Phyllis Henderson Hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years Penelope Clayton Henderson of Jasper, son Nash Henderson of Seattle Washington, and son Nicholas Henderson of Jasper, FL; Sister Clara Henderson Waldrep Floyd of Madison, FL (Charlie), Sister Mary-Kay Henderson of Jasper, FL ; Twin Sister Frances Henderson-Goldberg of Thomasville, GA & Brother Jeff Henderson of Grey, GA (Shelby); Mother in-law Cheryl Selph Clayton and Father in-law Jerry Clayton (Vickie); Brother in-laws and sister in-laws Doug and Denise Clayton, Amanda and Aaron Harlon, and Fran Clayton.; Nieces and Nephews, David Hunter, Katie Rolston, Kelly Reeves, Ryan Floyd, Robbie and Hannah Brisbane, Georgia and Charlotte Goldberg, Adelia, Griffen, and Arleigh Henderson, Crystal Slater, Steven Clayton, Brittany and Addam Morris, Ryan Johnson, and Anika Warner (niece and bonus daughter), and numerous great nieces and nephews.
