Frank Lewis Hines, an Albuquerque resident for 36 years, passed away on January 30, 2009. He was born January 6, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Esther Hines. He is survived by his wife, Dee and his children, Susan of Albuquerque, Elizabeth and her husband Seth of Bellingham, Washington, Frank and his wife Marian of Maui, Hawaii, Jackie and her husband Don of Spokane, Washington, David of Albuquerque, Kathy of Portland, Oregon, Lori and her husband Ron of Albuquerque. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren. Frank graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, class of 1952. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and earned the Silver Star during his tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1975, he founded Hines Corporation, builders and developers. The company built many apartments, homes and offices in the Albuquerque area. His major project was Academy Office Park. A man of many interests, his hobbies included gardening, tennis, painting, and playing bridge. He retired from the building business in 1998 and spent the last 10 years traveling and being involved in philanthropy. He established the Frank and Dolores Hines Endowment Fund at the Albuquerque Community Foundation. He was especially proud of his Polish heritage and has sponsored a Polish Student to the United World College for the past 12 years. A memorial service will take place at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, February 5, 2009, 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UNM Cancer Research Center for Melanoma research. The address is MSC 08-4630, 1 UNM, Albuquerque NM 87131 or call 505-272-2114.
