Frank IDE Obituary

Frank Verner Ide (88) passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 23, 2023. Frank was born December 20, 1934, in Portland, OR, to Hervey V. Ide and Lillian Post Ide. He and his three brothers were raised by Hervey and his second wife, Evelyn, in Medford, OR. Frank's father was in the Army, and Frank spent his high school years in Heidelberg, Germany. In 1954 Frank enlisted in the Air Force and spent the next several years at various bases. Frank's friend Mel suggested he meet his sister, Jeanette Hirtle. They immediately hit it off and got married in 1960. Following Frank's tour in Vietnam, he and Jeanette moved to Spokane in 1963, where Frank was selected to be part of the 4000th Support Group, a secretive, communications outfit north of Airway Heights, where they were fortunate to remain until Frank's retirement in 1977. Frank then used his communication/electrical skills at Gonzaga University and then Eastern Washington University, where he retired after fifteen years.

Frank and Jeanette raised four wonderful children, Gary, Frank R., Kenneth, and Kathleen. They had 11 grandchildren, who gave Frank and Jeanette 17 great-grandchildren (and still growing)!

Frank was a quiet man who was quick with the one-liners. He could fix pretty much anything and regularly did so for friends and family. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and spending time at their place on Lake Roosevelt with family. He cherished annual month-long vacations in Hawaii with Jeanette. He also adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his wife, Jeanette; son, Gary and his wife, Beth; son, Frank and his wife, Shari; son, Ken and his wife, Heather; daughter, Kathy and her husband, Mike Maguire; his grandchildren, Veronica Vilski, Katrina Reis, Jessica Juergens, Daniel Ide, Amanda Montijo, Teresa Leighton, Andrea Grafmiller, Shawn Maguire, Michelle Maguire, Rachel Rybar, and Spencer Ide. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Jack, Don, and Ben; and his special aunt and uncle, Betty and Kenneth Ide.

A service in Frank's honor will be held at 11:15 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 1702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA, 99022.
