Frank Lehr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Family Funeral & Crematory Services, LLC - Smyrna on Jan. 15, 2026.
Frank Gregory Lehr, age 66, died at home on January 3, 2026, in Lascassas, Tennessee. Frank was born to Clemens and Mary Lehr (Woodworth) in Okinawa, Japan, while his father was serving in the United States Air Force.
Frank joined the United States Air Force and after four years of service, he was honorably discharged. His military honors include the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, Basic Security Police Qualification Badge, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Following his military service, Frank returned to O'Fallon, Illinois, where he met the love of his life, Angela "Angie" Lehr (Harris). The couple moved to California, and he began his long career in law enforcement.
Frank dedicated decades of service to the Newark Police Department, where he built a reputation as a committed, dependable, and highly respected officer. During his tenure, Frank held several distinguished roles, including Narcotics Detective, Field Training Officer, Citizens Police Academy instructor, SWAT team member, and hostage negotiator. In 1990, he was named Officer of the Year by his peers. Frank retired as a Sergeant from the Newark Police Department.
After retiring from law enforcement, the family relocated to Tennessee. Frank's devotion to service quickly drew him back into work. After officially retiring he filled his days riding his motorcycle, working on projects, spending treasured time with his family, and enjoying life alongside his loyal dog, Copper.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Clemens Lehr; his mother, Mary Lehr (Woodworth); his sister, Patricia Lehr; his granddaughter, Madison Field; mother-in-law Sandra O'Gara Harris, and his sister-in-law, Carla Lehr.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Angela "Angie" Lehr (Harris); his daughter, Joey Field (Lehr) and her husband Jake Field, his daughter, Kayleigh; grandchildren Connor, Mackenzie, Caitlin, and Aurora; his brother, Richard Lehr (Colleen); his sister, Sandra Lehr; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Frank will be remembered as a man of service, strength, loyalty, and unapologetic humor. He dedicated his life to protecting others and loving his family deeply. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the institutions he strengthened, and the family that will carry on his memory forever.

I miss you, my old friend and riding buddy. I still think about our trip to Sturgis and especially the buffalo traffic jam while on the bikes. I will think of you whenever I am out for a putt!
