Frank Lorello Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 2, 2025.
Frank J. Lorello, 90, of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025.

Frank spent his childhood summers in Manasquan Beach (on the Jersey Shore), where he met the love of his life, Lorraine, when he was 15 and Lorraine was 13 years old. They married in 1957 and passionately enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Frank was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, surrounded by a large and close extended Italian family. The Lorello clan needed no excuse to celebrate life with food, jokes, and story telling, which included regular Sunday suppers in the basement at his grandmother's house. He carried on the Lorello family traditions with his own parents and children.

He graduated from Synder High School and then attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City, where he graduated with a BS in Chemistry. While attending St. Peter's, he proudly served in the ROTC and continued serving in the United States Army Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge of Captain in the Signal Corps in 1964.

After marriage, Frank and Lorraine moved from Jersey City to North Arlington, NJ, where he began his career as a Chemist with Allied Chemical and Diamond Shamrock. He and Lorraine then moved to Rochelle Park, NJ, where they began raising their children. After accepting a position as manufacturing chemist for Stepan Chemical in Joliet, IL, Frank, Lorraine, and their children settled in Naperville, IL. He retired from Stepan in 2000 and returned to the Jersey Shore, where he and Lorraine split time residing in Manasquan Beach and Toms River.

Frank carried his hobby of making military model airplanes into retirement and built dozens of planes that he proudly displayed at his home. He generously donated some of these planes to military families and organizations in the area.

He continued using his chemistry skills in retirement, and enjoyed "cooking with chemistry" in the kitchen, while lovingly accepting a role reversal while providing selfless home care for Lorraine.

Preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, who recently passed away in March, parents Joseph and Evelyn, and a sister Rosalie.

He is survived by his daughter Jean, daughter Barbara (Susan), son Joseph, and son Thomas (Daniela). Four grandchildren: Rose, Robert, Tara, and Vince and three great grandchildren.

Frank always said how grateful he was to have lived a long and wonderful life, which included his 75 year love story that started on the Main Beach in Manasquan, NJ with his dear sweet Lorraine. He was a gentleman and man of honor who never compromised his values or ethics. His family takes great comfort knowing that he is united and will sleep in heavenly peace with Lorraine.
