Frank Minter Obituary

Frank Minter, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025. Born in Durham, N.C., he was a graduate of Durham High School, and NC State University (Engineering), where he was initiated into Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and UNC Chapel Hill (MBA). He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, rarely missed Sunday services and lived his life guided by his faith.
Frank enjoyed a 35-year career at IBM, earning multiple Golden Circle Awards. In 1980 he founded Salem Gymnastics & Swim, which quickly became a community cornerstone. Tens of thousands of children have discovered the joys of movement at Salem, some to National Titles and NCAA Scholarships, but Frank just loved to see them all "sweating and smiling" and learning to be the best they could be.
A lifelong traveler and adventurer, Frank visited six continents, bicycled across Europe, logged nearly 300 scuba dives, and loved snow skiing, RV road trips, and driving with his Mini Cooper family. He enjoyed shagging to beach music, attending Jimmy Buffett concerts, and having a good meal with good friends. His smile could light up a room.
Frank was preceded in death by his son, David Minter; and son-in-law, Kenny Morphis. He is survived by daughters, Beth Morphis and children Jon and Alex, and Susan Loper, her husband Brian, and children Kristen, Shanna McCullough (Sean), and Austin; sister, Frances Wooten; and former spouse, Barbara Haas.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Burial and a reception will follow on church grounds.
