Frank Munafo, age 91, passed away on November 13, 2023. He was a native of South Philadelphia. Frank was the owner and proprietor of a family business Meat Market on the Italian Market for fifty years. He was married to Rachel Rossoni Munafo for 66 years. They had two children, a daughter, Erica Munafo (Matthew Stool) of Lebanon, PA, and a son, Marc Francis Munafo (Dee Aversa) of Havertown, PA. As well as three grandchildren, Marc Jr. (25), Matthew (23), and Lauren Munafo (21). Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Carmela (nee Filippello) Munafo.
When Rachel decided to continue her college education, Frank took voice lessons in Opera and discovered that he had a beautiful tenor voice. He won a scholarship to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and started a career of singing Italian Opera. He gave performances in Philadelphia’s Academy of Music as well as Opera Houses in Wilmington, DE, Sarasota, NY South Jersey, among others. He once auditioned for the famous opera singer, Maria Callas, who praised him as a “voce reale”, a real voice. Frank had a love for food, cooking, and watching old movies with Rachel.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 12:30-1:00 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, 1723 Race St., Philadelphia, PA 19103, followed by his Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
