Frank Roti Obituary
Frank J. Roti, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on May 21, 2025, in Downers Grove, IL, at the age of 82. Born on October 5, 1942, in Chicago, IL, Frank's life was a tapestry of hard work, laughter, and dedication to his loved ones, especially his grandchildren.
Frank's journey began in the heart of Chicago, where his spirited nature quickly became evident. His life was marked by a deep commitment to his family and his grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy. Frank's beloved wife, Connie, was his life partner for 62 years. Together, they shared countless cherished moments, especially with their grandchildren, who were deeply enriched by their unwavering love and support.
He was a father to his daughters, Denise (Tom) Gallagher and Karen Roti. Frank's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, always present in the lives of his grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin, Megan, and Olivia. Each of them benefited from his unique nicknames and playful teasing that saw him never miss a single game or event. They, along with his many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, will carry forward the light of his spirit.
Frank's sisters, the late Marie Roti and the late Judy (the late Jim) Ragano, his surviving sister Donna (John) Bellavia, and his brother Sammy Roti, will remember him for his fun loving nature. His nephew Rocco Ragano, along with nieces Dawn (George) Buccieri, Lisa (George) Morris, Nicole (Jesse) Cardoso, and Gianna (Dennis) Johnston, will fondly recall his spirited antics. Frank was also cherished and loved by his parents the late Salvatore "Smokey" Roti and the late Lucy, nee Iasillo.
Frank was a hard worker. He was employed by the City of Chicago as a garbage truck driver and also drove a snow plow during the winter months. Prior to driving a garbage truck, Frank worked for the Chicago Park District as a self proclaimed horticulturalist. These skills unfortunately did not transfer to his yard in Burbank.
An active member of the Italian American Club, Frank embraced his heritage with pride. He was a man of routine and simple pleasures, known for his love of driving, racquetball, and football. His evenings were marked by his signature snack, faithfully enjoyed at 10:00 p.m. each night: ice cream with peanut butter, frozen to perfection.
Frank's love for food was only matched by his love for his family. He was famously stubborn, a trait that often manifested in his determination to enjoy his red meat despite any objections. His generosity extended to his tradition of gifting $2 bills to his grandchildren-and sometimes to his children-always with a twinkle in his eye.
Frank lived a life filled with humor and a unique ability to be entertaining with one liners. He would always send out text messages to his family starting with DEAREST ______ in all caps. The text would typically either be a humorous jab, an invite to breakfast (emphasizing he would pay), or an unwanted political endorsement.
His strong presence will be missed every day and we will take solace in the countless funny memories he leaves behind.
In loving memory of Frank, a visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a chapel service at 7:00 p.m. at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien. Burial services will follow on Friday, May 30, 2025. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. for a procession to Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
