Family Tribute ~

Frank Slubowski, 87, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 11, 1938, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Thaddeus and Helen Slubowski, and was a brother to Adele (Ernie) Gravlin.

Frank embraced life with a creative spirit, a generous heart, gentle kindness, and unwavering faith. Blessed with a keen imagination he brought beauty to the world through his ideas, his projects, and the way he lived his life. He was proud of his interior design, decorating, and landscaping skills.

He lived an active life. Raising and riding horses from a young age was a passion for him. He was an avid skier and an excellent dancer-line up ladies, lets polka! If he was ever found sitting still, it was likely in his garden or soaking up the sun. He found great joy and pride in designing and caring for his beautifully landscaped yards. Many were blessed by his talent for flower arranging. Our family often referred to him as "Franck" (Father of the Bride). He LOVED traveling and was fortunate to explore the world extensively both as a young man and later with his wife after retirement.

What began in childhood as a collection of colorful stones blossomed into a lifelong love of minerals. Over the years, Frank developed an impressive knowledge of the unique qualities and history of each piece. His fascination went beyond collecting-his enthusiasm was contagious, and he took great joy in teaching others about the beauty and science of the natural world, inspiring curiosity and wonder in those around him.

Professionally, Frank dedicated his career to education. He served as an educator and administrator in the Gibraltar School District for 42 years. He specialized in special education, supporting students with diverse learning and developmental needs. His commitment to his students and colleagues touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy of compassion, wisdom, and encouragement. He and his teaching partners (the "Trio") were known as the party planners. Frank also had a passion for real estate and served his community for 48 years. His strong work ethic and wholehearted dedication were evident in every project he embraced.

Faith was the steady foundation of his life. A devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frank served as a catechism teacher, usher, and member of the environmental committee, using his talents to help decorate the church. He served with humility and sincerity, offering his time, talents, and heart to his parish community. His faith guided his actions and shaped the gentle, generous spirit that so many cherished.

Above all, Frank was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda; his children, Erik Slubowski of Wyandotte and Brooke (Christopher) Bonham of Grosse Ile; and his grandchildren, Owen and Ava Bonham, and Justin Slubowski. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

A funeral Mass will be held on December 12 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church on Grosse Ile, with burial to follow at Michigan Memorial Cemetery. The family extends their gratitude to Hospice of Michigan for their compassion and care. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Michigan in his memory.
