Frank Tycast Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 20, 2025.
Dr. Frank J. Tycast, M.D.
October 9, 1941 - July 3, 2025
Dr. Frank J. Tycast, M.D., of Anoka, Minnesota and Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 9, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Frank lived a life of purpose, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family and the countless lives he touched through his work and service.
Frank served his country honorably as a Captain in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was part of the 1st Cavalry, 15th Medical Battalion. He was decorated with several medals including the Bronze Star, National Service Defense, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign and Army Commendation. His military service was a reflection of the deep empathy and courage that guided his life and career.
Following his military service, Frank became a respected Nephrologist at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Known for his kind heart and attentive care, he made a lasting impact on patients and colleagues alike. He approached every day with the goal of making others feel heard, valued, and cared for - always going above and beyond to serve others.
Frank had a gift for humor and loved to make people laugh with his quick wit and lighthearted spirit. Despite the demands of his profession, family was always his highest priority. He cherished every moment spent with his three sons - James, Steve, and David- and his beloved wife, Karen. In his last years, he was comforted by his faithful companion dog Misha. He will be remembered as a man who led with love, lived with purpose, and never missed a chance to bring joy to those around him.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Karen of 51 years, his three sons and their families: James and Sarah Tycast, Jack and Sam; Steve and Nora Tycast, Julia, Cecilia and Amalia; David and Emily Tycast, Audrey, Edwin, and Lenna and sister- in-law Cathy Sackrison.
All services will be held on July 25th at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St. in Anoka with a visitation at 10am and funeral services following at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/).
