"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Frank Vidakovics, our dear Apa, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family. His faith became sight on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
He lived his life with an unwavering focus on his faith in God, his wife and children and his church family.
Frank was born on October 25, 1936, in Baja Hungary. At 19, during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Frank escaped his homeland with his mother and sisters. They spent three years in refugee camps in Yugoslavia and Austria before being sponsored to the United States by fellow believers in 1959. In 1966, he gave his life to the Lord and became a faithful servant. Later that year, he returned to Hungary where he met his wife, his darling Sara. They settled in Akron Ohio and the Lord blessed them with 8 children. His entire life he worked tirelessly for his family.
He was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean) of West Akron. He understood the words of His Lord and Savior which says "whoever is forgiven much, loves much." (Luke 7:36-50). He went to church with a purpose. He loved his fellow believers well. He understood the value of worshipping the Lord and not forsaking the assembly. Many times you would hear him say “I’ll do anything to help save a soul”. We are so thankful for His example of being set apart for the cause of Christ.
Frank did have another love—a perfectly cut lawn—and continued mowing until the age of 84.
His grandchildren describe him as: loyal, steadfast, consistent, deeply loving, spiritually devoted, loving every sermon he heard, very hardworking, honest and he could always cause you to smile with a witty comment. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sara “Anya” of 59 years and children Barbara Krueske, Lillian, Justine (Vinny) Piticaru, Kathy, Diana (Jason) Reutter, Tammy (Victor) Botosan, Esther (Sergey) Prediy and Frank (Mimi). His grandchildren: Joshua (Renee), Abigail (Jeremy) Freund, Caleb (Selina), Samuel (Danielle), Simon (Nicole), Benjamin (Jessica), Phillip, Timothy and Claudia (fiancé Jared Zarkovacki) Piticaru; Nathan (Haley), Connor and Serina Botosan; Angela (Matthew) McKenzie, Kristina and Karissa Krueske; Chelsea (Serhii) Odenskyi, Isaiah, Isaac, Dominka, Zaleena, Silas and Eliana Prediy; Alexis, Lauren and Preston Reutter and Olivia, Frank John, Adelaide and Gwen Vidakovics along with 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Klara Greene.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Gergely, his brother Gergely and sisters Magdalena Gardality, Rozalia Kaplar and Elizabeth Auer. Also, his grandchildren Elijah Prediy and Brianna Botosan and son-in-law Michael Krueske.
