Frankie Thomas Gladding,78, passed away peacefully surrounded by daughter Megan Vickers and her husband Dylan after a prolonged battle with cancer. He previously lived most of his life in the state of Virginia. Frankie was born Aug 29, 1947 to Roland and Inez Gladding of Oak Hall Va. He is survived by his daughter Megan Vickers, son Christopher (Alex) Gladding, and his two grandsons Christian Gladding and Dax Vickers. Frankie attended Old Dominion (College) University and graduated in 1968 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Following graduation, Frankie had a 54 year career as a mechanical engineer. Frankie was a man of faith and a musician who enjoyed playing the guitar for church services and special events. He was athletic and enjoyed playing or watching any sport, but particularly loved golf, football, and softball. He had a woodworking interest and made gifts for family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, boating and hiking. He was a quiet man, a deep thinker who had an appreciation for the beauty of nature. Frankie was a military veteran serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He also served for a number of years in the Army Reserves. Frankie was a devoted father and grandfather, who was always there to offer guidance, love, and support. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family and friends. A graveside service to celebrate Frankie's life will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 1:00pm, at East New Market Cemetery located near the town of East New Market on Mount Holly Road. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to American Cancer Society in Frankie Gladding's memory.
