Franklin Beard Obituary
Mr. Beard was born in Floyd County, Georgia on April 11, 1936, son of the late Jessie Dewey Beard and the late Sarah Hooks Beard. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Woods Beard, by two sons, Gary Lynn Beard and Michael Renee Beard, and by three brothers, Daniel, Samuel, and Ned Beard. Mr. Beard retired from the U.S. Navy following 19 years in Aviation and his service during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the Navy, he was a self-employed contractor. He was an avid bowler.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Carter (Greg); a son, David Jessie Beard (Wanda); eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 1pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Rev. Trey Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rome American Legion Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 12pm until the funeral time.
