Franklin "Frank" Eugene Bowstring, "Ozhaawashko-bineshiinh" which means "Bluebird," age 63, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Veteran's Hospital in Fargo, ND. Frank was born in Cass Lake, MN, on November 7, 1959.
Frank was raised by his grandparents, Rose and Ernest Howard in Inger, MN. In 1980, Frank enlisted into the United States Army serving two years. Shortly after, he moved to the Brevik area, where he enjoyed the last 40 years and raised two daughters. Frank worked as a Conservation Officer for 30 years for the Leech Lake Reservation. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, trapping, gardening, gathering, and harvesting of wild rice, venison, blueberries, and cranberries. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Frank is preceded in death by his mom, Evelyn Howard; grandparents, Rose and Ernest Howard; and brother, Elmer Bowstring.
Frank is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Bowstring and Tera Wilson; brothers, Hal, Marvin, William, and Ben Bowstring; granddaughters, Amira and Caroline; grandsons, Clinton and Julian; great-grandson, Norman; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Memorial service for Frank will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 28, 2023, with a two-hour visitation starting at 12:00 p.m., all to be held at the Walker Area Community Center in Walker, MN. Frank's Spiritual Advisor is Allen Hardy. Military honors accorded by the Leech Lake Veteran's Memorial Honor Guard. Those helping to lay Frank to rest are Denis Sward, Levi Brown, Paul Nordeen, Craig Nason, Erik Kern, and Julian Jones. Alternate will be Bill Bowstring. Honorary pallbearers are Leech Lake DRM Staff, Cass County Sherriff's Department, U.S. Forestry Department, Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, and the Department of Natural Resources Division of Enforcement. Inurnment will be on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Inger Cemetery in Inger, MN.
