FRANKLYN V. LUDVIGSON, 87, of Cherokee, formerly of Paullina, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Cherokee Specialty Care.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Peter Rosenkvist will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Military rites will be performed by the Cherokee American Legion and V.F. W. Post #2253. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Services will be livestreamed on the Boothby Funeral Home website through the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Franklyn was born on September 5, 1936 to Clarence and LaVerna (LaFrentz) Ludvigson at Fielding, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1963. He was united in marriage August 14, 1960 to Kathryn Pelton at LeMars, Iowa, together they had two children, Marchele and Kevin.
Franklyn worked as a farmer until 1985 and also worked in a hog confinement near Paullina. He worked for Diamond Vogel Paint for 20 years and retired due to health reasons.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, tractor drives, gardening, bird watching, outings with his siblings, and going to the Black Hills with his wife and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathryn in 2019, brothers Virgil and Kenneth Ludvigson, sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Ann and James Fassler and Shirley and Howard McCoy, brother-in-law Charles Prunty, mother-in-law and father-in-law Clyde and Frieda Pelton.
Franklyn is survived by his children, Marchele (Mike) Polenske of Bancroft, Nebraska and Kevin Ludvigson of Coropolis, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Madison Polenske (Timathey Chamberlain) of Homer, Nebraska and Matthew Polenske of Bancroft, Nebraska; sister Annabelle Prunty of Cherokee, Iowa; sister-in-law Kathleen Ludvigson of Washta, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Cherokee Specialty Care for the tremendous care over the past few years and to Hospice of Siouxland for the care during his time on hospice.
