Memory of Fred Buring
Born in Covington, Kentucky on May 26, 1932
Passed in Northridge, California on January 9, 2022
On Sunday, January 9, 2022, Fred Buring passed away at 89 years old from Dementia. He left behind his wife of 63 years, three children, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was the last of 12 brothers and sisters.
He was born in Kentucky, but at a young age his family moved to Los Angeles, CA. In his teenage years they moved to Oregon, where Fred worked on the family farm. He later became a lumberjack (with 10 sandwiches in his hard hat).
After his family moved back to California, he was drafted into the United States Navy. He honorably served his country as a Helmsman on the USS Hornet aircraft carrier. (Funny thing, he didn't even know how to swim).
One day in Alhambra when Fred was on leave, he met Ramona. They were married years later and had three wonderful children, Steve, Chris and Linda.
For many years Fred worked for a printing company, until his father-in-law Ralph offered him a job as a daily home-delivery milkman. This was the start of their life in Northridge, CA with Ralph as his best friend and next- door neighbor. He was a milkman for the next 16 years, which is when he fell in love with little round cakes with a hole in the middle, we call them donuts. Boy did he love his donuts!!!
As his kids grow up, a friend talked him and Ralph into building a VW dune buggy. For many years that was our family fun, going to Pismo Beach or the desert with family and friends.
Fred was always a hard worker and years later, he and Mona bought a get-away condo in Palm Springs. That was their place to unwind and soak up the sun and enjoy an ice cream.
Fred loved his cars, he washed and waxed them every week. He loved his 1956 Corvette, 1965 Pontiac 2+2, and 1968 Cadillac El Dorado. He restored a 1969 Mustang Mach I, but didn't stop there. He bought and
completely restored a 1929 old rust bucket Ford Model A pick-up truck. The little red truck became his new pride and joy. He went to car shows, cruised Van Nuys Boulevard, and drove it to Oregon and Washington on a vacation. Still wanting to build another car he bought his son's 1930 Ford Model A Coupe. He restored and chopped the top of that beautiful blue car, another pride in joy.
Time had passed and he wanted to restore something different. He decided on a 1940 Cletrac tractor, which was the same type he used on the family farm in Oregon. But he didn't stop with just one, he built two...three tractors! He loved his cars and now his tractors too.
After retired, he enjoyed going to car and tractor shows, puttering in his garage, helping family and friends, checking on neighbors, catching up on his western TV shows, or just plain feeding someone's animals.
Fred loved kids, especially his grandkids and great grandkids, they loved him as much as he loved them. He was an incredibly loving, kind, giving, hardworking, fun, playful, funny and religious man.
It's safe to say, that once you met Fred, you would never forget him. We loved him with all of our hearts, and he will be greatly missed by all.
Rest in Peace
