Federico Cardenas Sr. "Pastor Fred" passed away at the age of 65 on Sunday October 26, 2025 in Floresville, Texas where he resided with his family for over 15 years. Pastor Fred was born on July 14, 1960, in Laredo, Texas. Guided in faith by his grandmother, Esperanza, he grew up rooted in the Word of God. He later moved to San Antonio to attend St. Philip's College, where he graduated and continued his education, earning multiple certificates in mechanics. Pastor Fred was married for over 40 years to his lovely wife, Gloria Bueno Cardenas. He embodied a legacy of laughter, kindness, grace, and love. He expressed gratitude for his life experiences and hardships he faced growing up. He was known for spreading the word of God and speaking to everyone he would meet in public. He found joy in spending time with his family, studying the Bible, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and using his hands to fix almost anything, with a special talent for working on vehicles. He spent most of his days playing basketball with his grandsons, sitting outside watching his wife and grandchildren with their farm animals, singing, and playing his guitar. Pastor Fred worked for Lackland Air Force Base for 35 years where he retired and became a full-time Pastor at Templo Casa de Oracion (TCO).
He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, unwavering integrity, and wisdom. Also will be remembered as the go-to confidant for prayer and wise counsel. Whenever someone sought his guidance, he would respond not only with heartfelt support but also by sharing relevant scripture from the Bible or an inspiring quote. He firmly believed in second chances and that things aren't always as they seem. He held that everyone is equal, regardless of their differences, and he shared the gospel each day with unwavering faith. He was a person of profound influence who touched the lives of many. His ability to provide comfort and insight left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Pastor Fred was preceded in death by his father Jesus F. Renteria, mother Manuela C. Renteria, nephews Jesus Emilio Renteria, Jacob Morales, and grandmother Esperanza Eguia and brother Cruz A. Renteria, in-laws Antonio and Agida A. Bueno.
His survivors include his two children, Cheryl Cardenas Grosse (Timothy) and Federico Cardenas Jr. "Jay" (Emily). He had two grandchildren who were his pride and joy James Jeremiah Grosse and Logan Joel Grosse and five fur grandchildren, Lucas Silas, Luna Rose, Camillie Rosita, Charlotte Dolly, and Molly. Pastor Fred was blessed with many siblings Maria Romero (Francisco), Jesse Renteria (Teri), Irma Hernandez (Jose), Joe Renteria (Susan), and Rodolfo Renteria, and his aunts and uncles (Roberto, Juan, Enrique, Rosie, Rodolfo, and Bertha), who were like his siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
