Fred C. Carter, 74, of Rincon, GA passed away at his home, July 28, 2023.  He was born June 5, 1949 in Folkston, GA to the Late Cecil E. Carter and Ruth Tucker Carter.  Following High School, he attended Georgia Southern.  Fred worked for Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base Fire Department for over 23 years and served as Charlton County Volunteer Fire Chief for a number of years.  He served as security for Ikea Warehouse for the last 10 years.

Fred dearly loved his family and friends.  If you needed help he was your man.  He was an avid fisherman and watcher of NASCAR and golf.  He was also quite attached to the Charlton Indians and the Georgia Bulldogs. When not consumed by these pursuits he liked cooking, though he had a hard time making less than enough for a whole fire station of eaters.  He was well-known for having a joke or anecdote for every situation.  Fred was quite creative, always able to produce original poems at the drop of a hat.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson:  Clayton Carter and his grandparents:  Theodore & Macie Tucker and Allen & Eyre Carter.

He is survived by his wife:  Andrea Jackson; his children:  Ryan Carter, Chris (Allison) Carter, Nikki (Nathan) Brantley, Jake Carter; step-children:  Renee (Brian) Coltrane, Chuck Roundtree; 12-Grandchildren:  Taylor Carter, Thomas Carter, Blaine Brantley, Bryant Brantley, Willie Brantley, Becca Lust, Abby Brantley, Caleb Carter, Kalli Drury, Kinsley Drury, Keegan Drury, and Hunter Carter; a sister:  Betty (Shelton) Johnson; a brother:  Steve (Shannon) Carter; the mothers of his children:  Ginger F. Carter, Mary Drury and Charlene R. Carter and a number of nieces and nephews and his special friend:  Betty Nazworth.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 4 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or if preferred remembrances may be made to the Folkston Fire Department.

Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest registry at www.shepardrobersonfh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, 526 Oakwood Street, Folkston, GA 31537.
