Fred C. Carter, 88, of Owings, Maryland, passed away on September 29, 2025. Born on April 18, 1937 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of the late Frank Whipple Carter and Nettie Anna Carter. Fred served in the U. S. Air Force with over 22 years as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, Fred was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Longevity Service Award with four Oak Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with PALM and Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, along other various commendations. He was an avid Miami Dolphins football fan. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Elizabeth Carter; sons David and Frank Carter; daughters Darla Richetti and Deborah. Fred is survived by his sons Darrold Carter, Darwin Carter, Michael Gibbs, Andrew Gibbs and his wife Brenda; daughters Denise Huening, Patricia Smith and her husband Edward, Kathleen Tondee and her husband Donald; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. A private service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
