Fred Corson

Fred William Corson, age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of Christian faith, hard work, honesty and deep love for his family. He was born on March 25, 1938, and lived a life marked by gratitude, devotion, service and integrity.
Fred was married to the love of his life, Marjorie "Margie" Corson (nee Vander Stel), for 65 years, celebrating their anniversary on October 14, 2025. Their marriage was a steadfast partnership built on faith, love, and commitment.
Fred proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. His service and love for America were deeply important to him. He was known for his unmistakable patriotism-and for the pride he took in being an American.
A hardworking man from a young age, Fred grew up on a farm, an experience that shaped his strong work ethic and humble spirit. He later worked for many years as a bookkeeper for DeWent Gravel Company, where he was valued for his reliability and character. In retirement, Fred remained deeply grateful for the life he had been given, often expressing appreciation for even the simplest comforts.
Fred had a servant's heart and was always ready to help someone in need. His relationship with Jesus was central to his life, and he was active in the church for many years, serving faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, and church treasurer.
He also found joy and companionship in his younger years in his horse, Laddy, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Fred was often seen wearing his cowboy hat to shield him from the sun and a western belt adorned with plenty of bling-small outward signs of a man with quiet strength and unmistakable character.
Fred was deeply appreciative of the care he received at Rivertown Ridge Assisted Living, where he was treated with kindness, dignity, and compassion. The family is grateful to the staff for the care and respect shown to him.
Above all else, Fred deeply loved God and his family. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord and Martha Corson, and his sister, Millie VanderStel. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie; and his four daughters, Bonnie (Paul) Glasier, Crystal (Tim) Riley, Pam (Robert) Freeman, and Sherry (Jay) Rainer; and sister, Maxine Finkbeiner. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family who will forever cherish his example of faith, humility, and love.
The family will greet visitors on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, from 1 to 2 PM with the service beginning at 2 PM. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
