Fred Lee Crouse, age 82, of Germanton, NC, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 27, 1942, in Roanoke, VA, Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He grew up in Galax, Va and attended Galax High School.

Fred was married to his beloved wife, Norma, on November 22, 1962, and together they shared 62 years of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Fred and Norma were blessed with two sons, Ray (Lynn), and Thomas (Lori), along with three adored granddaughters: Marissa Crouse, Miranda Gentry (Billy), and Molly Crouse. Fred also leaves behind his sister, Nancy Spillman (Jeff), his chosen brother, Tommy Covington, and many cousins whom he held close to his heart.

Fred served honorably in the United States Army for six years and was stationed in Germany for two years, before beginning a long and fulfilling career with Roadway Express. He worked with the company for 37.5 years, retiring in 2002 after achieving 3.5 million safe driving miles. In retirement, Fred and Norma spent 20 years traveling the United States and Canada in their motorhome, making lifelong memories. They also spent 13 winters in Florida, where they enjoyed the warmth and relaxation of the sunshine state.

A highlight of Fred’s retirement came when he and Norma celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a memorable trip to Hawaii, marking the completion of Fred’s travel adventures to all fifty states.

In 2002, Fred and Norma joined their sons on a purchase of a family horse farm, where Fred took immense joy in watching his granddaughters grow up. In addition to his love for his family, Fred enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including attending car shows with his 1956 Ford, and reconnecting with his former coworkers at Roadway Express during their Thursday breakfast meetings.

In recent years, Fred also worked part-time driving for Muddy Creek Motorsports from 2021 to 2023, a job he genuinely enjoyed. His kind heart, strong work ethic, and genuine care for others will leave an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Fred was a man of integrity, generosity, and love, and he will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his spirit.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at First Baptist Stanleyville, Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday December 7th at 11:00 a.m., with family and friends gathering to honor his memory. The family invites all attendees to stay after the service for a meal to recognize the importance of family mealtimes in Fred’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Medi Home Health & Hospice of Thomasville, NC, 1007 Lexington Ave, Thomasville, NC, 27360 or First Baptist Church Stanleyville, 851 Ziglar Rd, Winston-Salem, NC, 27105.
