Fred Elbert Gibson, Jr. (75) of St. Pauls, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Elbert was born September 11, 1949 in Bladen County NC to the late Fred E. Gibson, Sr. and Joyce Cox Gibson. He is also preceded in death by his nephew, Ron Phillip Allen, Jr. 

 He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Billie Jean Gibson; son, Derek Gibson and daughter, Wendy Otey. He was blessed with three amazing granddaughters: Madison Gibson, Mackenna Gibson, and Landon Otey. Elbert has two sisters, Alice Allen (Phil) and Susan Kinlaw (Kenny). Elbert also had many extended family members and friends that he loved like immediate family. 

 Elbert Gibson was a long time resident and business owner in the town of St. Pauls. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was also very active in serving his community in multiple capacities to Include: Current Mayor, Town Commissioner, Chamber of Commerce member, Robeson County Municipal Association board member(former President), Robeson County ABC Board member (former Chair) and board member of the Rural Transportation Planning Organization. He also served on the boards and advisory committees of multiple local banks. Along with serving St. Pauls and the county, Elbert was also an active member in First Baptist church as a Deacon, Sunday school director, former treasurer and VBS Staff member. 

 Elbert loved his community and seemed to never meet a stranger. Always available for a chat or to lend a hand; he strived to be a friend to all. If he wasn’t working or serving the town; you could usually find him on the golf course or in his yard where he loved gardening. 

 The family will receive friends Friday, November 15th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McNeill Legacy Funeral Home at 319 West Broad Street, St. Pauls NC. The service will be Saturday, November 16th at First Baptist Church at 302 S. Second Street, St. Pauls, NC.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

 The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. Special Thanks to the Gibson Cancer Center and Liberty Hospice.  -The Gibson Family
