Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ideal Funeral Parlor - Florence on Oct. 31, 2025.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Fred Milton Gregg, age 82, of Suffolk, VA, who peacefully transitioned on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance.
Born on August 27, 1943, in
Florence, South Carolina, Fred was the son of the late Mattie and Ned Gregg, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Augustus Gregg.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Gary Gregg; his loving daughter-in-law, LaToya Gregg; four grandchildren whom he adored - Asaad Graham, Quincy Gregg, Chauncey Gregg, and Josiah Johnson; two beloved great-grandchildren, Alani Davis and Ali Davis; and an adopted granddaughter, Shantiyanna Simmons. He is also survived by a host of loving family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
A proud native of Florence, Fred attended Wilson High School, Class of 1962, and spent much of his life working diligently in his hometown. He was employed in several capacities over the years, with his final position being at ESAB North America. Fred also faithfully served his country in the United States Army Reserve, from which he later retired.
During his years in Florence, Fred was a longtime member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he found faith and fellowship among friends.
In 2016, Fred relocated to Suffolk, Virginia, to be closer to his immediate family. Known for his warm smile and friendly spirit, he never met a stranger and made new friends wherever he went.
Fred was an avid sports fan who proudly cheered for the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins), the Florida State Seminoles, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Yankees. His favorite pastimes included feeding the dogs table food (even when he knew he shouldn't), ordering treasures from Temu, and occasionally locking himself out of his iPhone. He had a sweet tooth for lemon meringue pie, ice cream, and hard candy - simple joys that always made him smile.
Fred will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and love for family. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of laughter, warmth, and connection will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Lovingly submitted by the Family
