Fred Morgan Hartzog, beloved husband, father, brother, and devoted grandfather, passed away in his home on September 8, 2025 at the age of 67 after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 10, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was quickly adopted by Fred and Sammie Sue Hartzog on Valentine’s Day 1958. He was raised on Dorgan Street in Jackson and attended Wingfield High School. A Certified Public Accountant, Morgan held a bachelor’s in accounting and MBA from Mississippi State University. He established his practice in 1989. He taught accounting courses throughout his career, primarily at Hinds Community College.

Morgan was deeply devoted to his community and the youth around him, serving as a leader for 4-H shooting sports and coaching the Mississippi national team for over 15 years. His enthusiasm for these programs reflected his love for teaching and mentoring young people, fostering their interest in the outdoor sports he cherished. He enjoyed preserving his family homestead in Choctaw County, MS, on Lobutcha Creek. Morgan was an avid hunter and fisherman; the outdoors provided him solace and joy. His passion for nature was matched only by his dedication to his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Denise Burrell Hartzog. Together, they nurtured a warm and loving home for their three children: Aaron Hartzog and his wife Anna Jade; Molly Hartzog and her husband Zach Kazior; Eric Hartzog and his wife Sara. Morgan encouraged and took great pride in his children’s accomplishments: Aaron, an engineer; Molly, a former English professor, now health communication specialist; Eric, a music graduate and station manager for aircraft maintenance at the Jackson airport. He was proudest of his four grandchildren: Lucy Kazior (6), Emilia Hartzog (3), Esther “Essie” Kazior (1), and Ezra Hartzog (1). He leaves behind a sister, Susan Donald, and her husband Danny, who work at French Camp Academy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, who he cherished deeply. Morgan Hartzog lived a life filled with passion, love, and unwavering commitment to family and community.

His legacy will undoubtedly continue through the lives he touched, both through his professional work and his engagement with the youth of his community. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, laughter, and his adventures in the great outdoors. His memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Clinton. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donation to Hinds County 4-H, care of Lurlinda Soignier, P.O. Box 1207, Raymond, MS 39154, marked “Hartzog Memorial” in the memo line.
