Fred Krauss Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon - Coyne - Vitantonio Funeral Home - Mentor on Jan. 28, 2026.
Fred J. Krauss III, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 66.

Born on February 7, 1959, in Euclid, Ohio, Fred spent most of his life in Lake County, where he was known not by titles or accomplishments, but by the quiet goodness of his character. He lived simply, loved deeply, and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect.

Fred was the loving and devoted father of Brian F. (Brittany) Krauss and Lindsay M. Krauss, whose lives were shaped by his steady presence, gentle guidance, and unconditional love. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Mason, Payten, Hudson, and Kaylie, who brought him immense joy and purpose. His love for his family was constant, unspoken, and unwavering-shown not through grand gestures, but through patience, loyalty, and always being there when it mattered most.

He was the beloved brother of Mike (Karen) Krauss; brother-in-law of Dave Herpy; uncle to Matt, Christy, Amber, Ashley, David, Michael, and Elizabeth; cousin to Johnny; and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom knew him as a gentle, dependable presence in their lives.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred J. and Mary Krauss Jr. (née Prelc); his brother, Frank (Sue) Krauss; and his sister, Maria Herpy.

Those who knew Fred will remember him for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and the calm warmth he carried into every room. He was truly a nonjudgmental soul-someone who listened more than he spoke and met others with understanding and grace. His smile came easily and often, and in photographs it perfectly captured the quiet joy with which he lived. Fred had a way of making people feel seen and accepted, never rushed, never judged, always welcome.

As a father, Fred led by example. He showed that strength could be soft, that faith could be lived quietly, and that love did not need to be loud to be powerful. His patience, humility, and compassion left a lasting imprint on his children and grandchildren, and those values will continue to guide them in the years ahead.

Though his passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of those who loved him, Fred's legacy is one of goodness-found in the lives he touched, the kindness he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be remembered not only for who he was, but for how he made others feel: safe, valued, and cared for.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 12:00 noon at All Souls Cemetery.
