Fred Lulling Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller and Miller Funeral Home - Hugo on Oct. 15, 2025.
Frederick John Lulling, 78, was born on February 10, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Ray Lulling and Elizabeth Teske. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Fred had lived in the Nelson community for the past 12 years. He attended Gallaudet University, was a chairman of the St. Paul Deaf Club and worked at Unisys for many years before he began his full-time career in entertainment. Fred was a fire eater and was known professionally by his stage name "Mephisto", where he brought joy to many and showcased his passion for the extraordinary. He was also involved in the World of Wonders and Jim Zajicek's Sideshow. Fred was admired by other professionals in the field for being the only deaf man to manipulate fire. He was a member of many Facebook groups, from woodworking to medieval festival and sideshow groups. He was a man who enjoyed life and found pleasure in its simplicities. Fred loved animals and the comfort and happiness they brought him. The world has lost a truly interesting and spirited soul in Fred, and he will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara Hoffmann; son, Raymond Lulling; daughter, Rebecca Lulling and grandchildren, Zoey Lulling, Hailey Lulling, Aurora Lulling along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
