Fred Malinowski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home in Pflugerville on Jun. 4, 2023.
Ferdinand (Fred) Julian Malinowski of Fentress, Texas passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 75.
Fred was born in Augustdorf, Germany on July 3, 1947, to parents Jozef and Joanna Malinowski. He immigrated to the United States shortly after the end of World War II with his parents and sister Barbara. Fred grew up in Chicago alongside his two sisters, Barbara and Bernice (affectionately known as Yankee since she was the only one to be born in the United States). Fred joined the Army in 1964 and was part of the 1st Battalion 67th 2nd Armored Division and was a tank crewman. He earned several medals and ribbons including a National Defense Service Medal, Expert (Pistol), Marksman (Rifle), and Purple Heart.
After serving in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1967, where he met his soon to be wife, Harriet, and they began a whirlwind romance. After dating for just two weeks, they were married and stayed that way for 49 years before her passing in 2016. Fred and Harriet had their only child, Joe, in 1968 and lived many years in South Austin. Professionally, Fred was a carpenter, millwright, and welder. He retired from Local 1421 as a millwright. Fred and Harriet retired to Fentress, Texas, and lived on 5 acres where they had goats, a donkey, chickens, cats, and dogs. He loved his place in Fentress as it provided him with peace and quiet from city living. Living on a small piece of land afforded him the opportunity to do what he loved, which was to work with his hands.
Fred is survived by his son, Joe Malinowski of Pflugerville, his "favorite daughter in law" Melissa, and his loving granddaughters Hannah and Sarah. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara and husband Jim Helton of Alabaster, Alabama and Bernice Malinowski of Chicago, Illinois. Fred had many nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members whom he was very fond of as well.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Harriet, his parents Jozef and Joanna Malinowski, and his sister Teresa Mschieczeka who lived in Poland.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30-7:30pm on June 9th at Beck Funeral Home located at 4765 Priem Lane in Pflugerville, Texas. There will be a graveside service at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, Texas, on Saturday, June 10 at 10:00am. If you are planning to attend either event, you are encouraged to wear your favorite rock band t-shirt as Fred always did.
