Fred Maloney Obituary

Fred G. Maloney, 76, of Latrobe, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 12, 1947, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Fred R. 'Ted' Maloney and Thelma J. (Piper) Maloney. Fred was a member of Latrobe Community Ministries. Fred had been a Math teacher at Penn Trafford School District for 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Loyalhanna Lodge No. 275, Free and Accepted Masons. Fred enjoyed playing pool and riding motorcycles, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Lanae and Dax, who were his pride and joy. He could never pass up a good deal at the flea market which led to many collections including knives and guns. Fred will always be remembered for his jokes, 'Hey, have you heard about the guy who'. Fred is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Ellen (McQuiston) Maloney, of Latrobe; three sons, Pat Maloney of Greensburg, Ted Maloney of Sandy Lake and Adam Maloney, and his wife, Megan, of McMurray; two grandchildren, Lanae and Dax Maloney; two sisters, Nancy Kirby of Mars, and Alicia Salem of Dublin, OH; and he is also survived by eight nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Leibu and Amedisys Hospice, especially Colleen and Aria for their excellent care and compassion. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake, PA. Dear Ellen and family:
So very sorry for your loss. We were out of town and we just learned of Fred's passing. Being a friend of Alicia's growing up, Fred was always available to give us sage advise. Not to mention we loved when he let her drive his Chevy Corvair....that was such fun! May you all find comfort at this time in your wonderful memories of a great guy!

MR. Mahoney to me was the best teacher and person. He cared about who the person was as his students. That is real. He understood Math so beyond others, that allowed him to break it down for anyone that needed him to. Prayers for his friends, family and all the students that he changed thier lives.

To Fred´s family, my sincere condolences. I became acquainted w/Fred thru playing on the Latrobe Methodist Church softball team many years ago. And he came thru my checkout line at Lowe´s & always had a new joke to tell. He was a great guy & I am proud to have known him.
