Fred Hiroshi Matsuyama, age 85, passed away peacefully from a massive hemorrhagic stroke at Harbor-UCLA hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Fred was born in Los Angeles, on November 1, 1940, the first son of Kiyoharu & Kiyoko Matsuyama. He loved hanging out with his family and taking them out to eat. The Matsuyama patriarch leaves behind his wife, Karen; daughters, Debbie Lim, Lili Hutchins (Jeff), Tammy Thompson (Tom), and Krystal Matsuyama-Tsai (Rob); son, Victor Matsuyama; grandchildren, Gary Lim, Michael Hutchins, Brady & Maddie Thompson, and Rhys Matsuyama-Tsai; brothers, Bobby, Steve (Melissa); Niece, Denise Lai (Ming); Mother-in-law, Jennie Shitakubo; sisters-in-law, Laraine Matsuyama, Lori Ishikawa (Tak), and several other relatives.
A Celebration of life service was held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at South Bay Community Church which he loved attending.
