Fred Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Marler Funeral Home - Cushing on Jan. 18, 2026.
Fred "Mark" Mitchell was born on February 2, 1937, and passed away on January 15, 2026. Mark lived a life grounded in faith, family and gratitude for the simple blessings God placed before him.

On October 4, 1958, he married the love of his life, Iris Strader. Together they shared 56 devoted years of marriage, building a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories until her passing. Mark was a member of the Yale Assembly of God in Yale, where his strong faith shaped the way he lived and loved others.

Mark had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, and his greatest joy came from time spent with family-sharing stories, laughter, and quiet moments together.

He grew up in the Quay, Pawnee, and Blackburn areas and learned the value of hard work at an early age. He spent many years working at grain elevators and flour mills before moving his family to Hebner, Nebraska, in 1976. There, he worked as a maintenance man at a cheese factory owned by his brothers. After retiring, Mark and Iris returned home to Oklahoma, where they enjoyed their later years together.
Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife Iris Mitchell; his son Ricky Joe Mitchell; daughter-in-law Violet; his sisters Rilla Marie, Hazel, Beatrice, and Lillian; and his brothers James, Johnie, George, Roy, and Thomas.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Marceen Mitchell; his nephew Rusty Strader and wife Johnie; his niece Gayla Brown and husband Jimmy; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Mark will be remembered as a man of quiet strength and unwavering faith, a devoted husband and father. He was someone who found beauty in God's creation and joy in life's simplest moments.

Mark's care has been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held on January 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Oklahoma.
