Fred Pankey, age 72 of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Jonesboro Cemetery.
Fred H. Pankey was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on March 25, 1951, to the late Paul and Edith Coston Pankey. He grew up and attended school in Texarkana. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He later worked in construction and owned his own sheet rocking business. He then went to work as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, working until his retirement in 1997. He married Glenda Robuck Taylor in 1996 and the two made their home in Jonesboro. His hobbies included riding horses, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Doc Pankey, Billy Joe Pankey, Otis Pankey, Ricky Pankey, and Jackie Pankey; and sister, Polly Pankey.
Fred is survived by his wife, Glenda of 27 years; sons, Jeffery Pankey, Caleb Pankey, David Taylor, and Keith Taylor; daughter, Jessica Goodsby; sisters, Phyllis Hensley, Patsy Slover, and Gwen Springer; brother, Randy Pankey; grandchildren, Megan Whisenhunt, Stevie Taylor, Kolby Taylor, Tatum Taylor, Leandria Diaz, Alexandria Nixon, Briandria Goodsby, Josiah Goodsby; and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jonesboro Cemetery Association, 2415 CR 194, Jonesboro, TX 76538.
