Fred Petrazio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groce Funeral Home & Cremation Services- Lake Julian on Feb. 12, 2026.
Fred Petrazio, 87, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on August 28th in Wilkes Barre, PA, Fred was the son of Fred and Roxanne Petrazio. Throughout his life, he was known for love of his family, cooking, dedication, humor, faith and his relentless work ethic.

In 1956, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Intrepid. During his service, the Intrepid completed tours of the Mediterranean, Guantanamo Bay, and the North Atlantic, including participation in Operation Strikeback. For many years, Fred worked for electric provider Penelec, in Altoona, PA. He specialized in Operations, Logistics and Warehousing.

When Fred retired, he and his wife, Kay, moved to Hendersonville, NC to be closer to their children. They were on a search for a church and found a wonderful church family at St. Barnabas Church.

Fred used his talents to support St. Vincent DePaul Pantry. For years, he spent his time and energy implementing processes to streamline the pantry and worked tirelessly to find ways to get as much food as possible for the people in need. He found his calling with the Pantry, and he loved the time he spent there and the volunteers that worked alongside him. Many meaningful friendships were formed, and countless hours were shared in service and camaraderie. They created a men's group called the "Romeos," a group of men who volunteered at the Pantry/Church and met weekly for breakfast to enjoy fellowship and reminisce about days gone by. He looked forward to the time he spent with each of them.

He enjoyed making spaghetti sauce and meatballs, cooking, singing, gardening and volunteering. Above all, he cherished time with his family and took great pride in spending time with each of them when they visited.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathryn Crandall Petrazio, daughter, Kristina Petrazio Kelly (Angie Allen); son, Steven Petrazio (Cathy Johnston Petrazio); daughter in-law Marcy Beaken Petrazio; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roxanne, brother, Tim and son Mike.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 21st at St. Barnabas Church, 109 Crescent Hill Rd., Arden, NC 28704.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Barnabas Church / St. Vincent DePaul Pantry (in memo), in honor of Fred's memory.

Fred will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
