Fred Spooner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Levander Funeral Home, Inc.- Albion on Dec. 15, 2025.
Fred Carroll Spooner Jr., son of Fred C. and Emma Annetta (Kleintop) Spooner Sr., was born on October 2, 1939, at Greenfield, MA. Fred attended school and later graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1962.

On January 14, 1963, Fred entered the U.S. Navy. Fred served in active duty until August 16, 1966, and continued his service in the reserves until January 30, 1973. During his military service he attended U.S. Naval Justice school, U.S. Naval Amphibious School, served as a Communications Watch Officer in Washington D.C., and was a U.S. Naval Officer candidate.

Fred was united in marriage to Kathryn Seaman in Fairfax, VA. During their marriage the couple made their home in Maryland, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, Florida, Russia, North Carolina, finally settling in Nebraska. Apart from being a U.S. Navy officer, Fred worked as an officer and special agent for the U.S. Customs. Fred also built and owned Country Cupboard Store in Vermont.

Fred's deepest passion was missionary work in service to God. He dedicated himself to various missions, including serving with Go To Nations in Jacksonville, Florida; partnering with Christian Adventures under the leadership of Dr. Kevin and Leslie McNulty; spending two years sharing the Gospel in Russia and Ukraine; helping to start World Christian Fellowship with Pastor Barry Owensbey in Daytona Beach, Florida; and attending Grace Tabernacle Ministries International in Bunnell, Florida. Fred was an avid boater who enjoyed every form of time on the water. Throughout his life, he owned a sailboat, a motorboat for waterskiing, and a canoe for exploring rivers. This lifelong passion for boating provided cherished opportunities to spend quality time with family and friends while finding peace and relaxation amid nature's beauty.

Fred is survived by his wife: Kathryn Spooner of Albion, NE; four children: Andrew Spooner of Albion, NE; James (Carrie) Spooner of Palm Coast, FL; Brian Spooner of Johnston, RI; Shaneca Cronin of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren: Rachel Spooner; Zach Spooner; Talon Spooner; Izaiah Cronin; Aaliyah Browne; Zion Browne; Leroy Jenkins III; mother-in-law: Rita Seaman of Tempe, AZ; three sisters-in-law: Marie (Tony) Martinez of Grand Junction, CO; Jane Davenport of Tempe, AZ; Diane (Leo) Schmallegger of Vienna, Austria; three brothers-in-law: Doug Bartow of East Northport, Long Island, NY; Daniel (Vickie) Seaman of Wade, NC; David (Patricia) Seaman of Williamstown, NJ; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law: Gleason Seaman; and sister: Nancy Bartow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the missions that were so dear to Fred's heart.
