THOMAS S. SPOONER

Thomas S Spooner age 90, beloved husband of Dale; loving father of Beth Cipriani (Bob), Steve (Theresa), and Andy (Maureen); grandfather of Kathy (Ryan), Sarah (Mike), Michael (Nicole), Mary (Brian), David (Emily), Jane (Ed), Chris, Joe (Alexis), Margot (Ben), Tom (Lucy), Tessa, and Jack; great-grandfather of 11; brother of John (Claire), Lawrence (Pat); uncle of seven.

Tom was born in Cleveland, lived in Marion, Il during WWII, and moved back to Ohio after the war. He went to Principia High School in Missouri where he played football and was a state record holder in the high hurdles. He majored in Personnel Administration at Baldwin Wallace College and was on the track team. During college he was a lifeguard at Oakwood Beach in Rocky River and it was there that he met the love of his life, Dale. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and was stationed in Marquette, MI, which is where Tom and Dale spent the first year of their marriage. After his service they returned to Rocky River to raise their three children. He was an entrepreneur at heart and in 1975 Tom started Spooner Inc. He built the company into a family of businesses with over 100 employees. Tom was an avid sailor. He loved to tinker on things; on his boat, in his home, and in his office. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was very proud of his family. He was well known as the founder of Spooner Inc, but his greatest legacy will be the love he shared with his wife.

Memorial service Saturday, March 14, 2026, 11:00AM at Lakewood Congregational Church, 1375 West Clifton Blvd., Lakewood, OH 44107. Interment private. Memorials to the Cleveland Food Bank.
