Dr. Fred Dixon Warren, 79, passed quietly on July 17, 2025, after a prolonged illness. He was born on January 13, 1946, in Athens, Ga. To Dr. C. D. Warren and Doris Wheeler Warren.
Fred enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a sergeant. He attended college both at the University of Georgia and at Georgia Southern and achieved a B.S. in Chemistry and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee in 1972 and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. He interned at Georgia Baptist Hospital.
He set up his Family Medicine practice in Rockport, Texas and was Medical Director of the EMS of Rockport and Aransas County for many years. In his honor, Aransas County named July 18, 1990, as Dr. Fred D. Warren Day.
He married Susan Lawton of New Orleans on December 31, 2004, and she helped him in his practice. After a series of medical issues forced his retirement, they moved back to Athens. Later a stroke left him severely disabled, but his devoted wife cared for him at home as long as possible.
Hs is survived by his wife, his brother, two children and grandchildren. He is remembered as a person of great kindness, humor and generosity. He will be missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2PM at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, TX.
