Freda Barger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home - Columbus on Dec. 28, 2025.
Freda Maxine Barger, affectionately known as "Frito," was born in Portsmouth, OH on September 11, 1954, and was called to her heavenly home on December 25, 2025. She resided in Columbus, Ohio for 58 years, where she filled her home with love, faith, and the scent of home-cooked meals. Freda was a compassionate soul, a humble servant of God, and a courageous woman whose strength was derived from her deep faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

Freda lived her life through the principles of her upbringing in Buck Holler, Greenup County, Kentucky, where her roots were firm in country living and Southern kindness. As a devoted homemaker, she was the heart of her home, always ensuring her family was provided for, felt safe, and knew they were deeply loved. Freda found joy in simple pleasures, such as coloring, paint-by-number projects, and faithfully watching her afternoon soap operas, especially General Hospital. Her faith was a guiding light in her life; she was a devoted Christian who believed wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ. As stated in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," Freda exemplified this verse throughout her life journey.

Freda leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. She is survived by her daughters Julie Owings and Nancy Barger, her son Randy Barger, and her son-in-law Billy Owings. She was preceded in death by her loving parents John and Freda Osborn, and her beloved husband, Chester Barger.

Freda's life was a testament to the power of love and faith. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us. In celebration of Freda's life, we invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a precious reminder of the remarkable woman we were blessed to know as Freda Barger.
