Freda Shackelford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home on Dec. 10, 2025.
Freda Mae Davis Shackelford, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into eternal rest on November 24, 2025, at Hospice of Cabarrus County after a life devoted to family, faith, and hard work.

Born in Lamesa, Texas, on December 6, 1948, Freda was the cherished daughter of Leander and Lillie Mae Lowrey Davis. She later married Larry Wilson Shackelford Sr, and together they built their life in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Freda's work ethic was unmatched. Over the years, she held many jobs-at an industrial company, a screen printing business, as a tax preparer, and even as a biscuit maker at Hardee's. At one point, she worked three jobs simultaneously, determined to provide for her children and ensure they had every opportunity to thrive.

Beyond her dedication to work, Freda's greatest joy was found in her family and in the traditions she lovingly created. She delighted in holidays, making each one special with her homemade cakes. Easter meant bunny cakes, baskets, and egg hunts; Thanksgiving was a treasured time of gathering; and Christmas brought both the magic of Santa and the deeper meaning of Christ's birth. She even crafted her daughter's wedding cake, a testament to her devotion and creativity.

Freda embodied motherhood in its truest form. Through every stage of her children's lives-even the stubborn teenage years-she remained steadfast, nurturing, and present. When her grandson was born prematurely, she moved in with Michael and Teresa to help care for him, once again placing family above all else. Her love was constant, her presence reassuring, and her sacrifices immeasurable.

She is survived by her children: Larry Wilson Shackelford Jr. and Teresa (Michael) DeSantis; her grandchildren: Topanga (Alex) Allred and Jacob (Abagail) DeSantis; and her great-grandchildren: Blaine and Jaxon Allred, and Elliana Griffin. She is also survived by her brother James (Megan) Davis, her sister-in-law Dorothy Davis, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry Shackelford Sr., her brother Herman Davis, her sister Reda Johnson, and her great-grandchild Aiden Allred.

Services are pending and will be announced once finalized. Freda's family has entrusted the compassionate care of arrangements to Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home.

Freda Mae Davis Shackelford will be remembered as a woman of strength, devotion, and boundless love-a mother whose legacy lives on in the family she so deeply cherished.
