Freda F. Thomas

Freda Fern Grieb Thomas entered her eternal home on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She lived her life as a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Freda was born August 10, 1923, in Jasper County, MO. She was one of seven children born to Roy and Ruth Grieb and was preceded in death by all her siblings. In 1946, Freda married her husband, Wayne J. Thomas. They were married for 71 years before his death in 2017. Freda remained in the Carthage, MO area all her life. She was devoted to the Lord and serving others. She was always an active member in her church and faithfully taught Sunday School to both children and adult classes. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse south of Carthage for several years in the 1940's. She was secretary for Sun Oil and Michel's Animal Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering in her community, which included McCune Brooks Hospital, The Blood Mobile, PTA, Meals on Wheels, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Freda is survived by four children: Edward Thomas and wife, Fran; Susan Thomas; Jeannette Thomas; Tom Thomas and wife, Tonna. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jeanna Thomas; Tracy Johnson and husband, Christopher; Anna Joy Thomas; Lisa Welch and husband, T.J., Joshua Thomas and wife, Lauren, Joe Thomas and wife, Andrea, Jeremy Thomas and wife, Noémie, Rebecca Moore and husband, Alex, and twenty great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Carthage Nazarene Church, 2000 Grand, Carthage, MO. There will also be a time of visitation at 9:00 a.m. preceding the service. The burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Carthage, immediately following the service.
