Freda Mae Wheeler, 89, of Sidney, passed away at 2:30PM, on Wednesday - February 4, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio, surrounded by her loving children. She was born on July 22, 1936, to the late Robert and Ellen Uppenkamp.
Freda was preceded in death by her beloved son, Timothy Wheeler; her parents, Robert and Ellen Uppenkamp; and her brother, William Uppenkamp. She is survived by her loving family: her sister, Cheryl Umstead (John Avant); daughter, Cindy Plumby (Paul Drennan); son, Chip Wheeler (Cathy); granddaughters, Lisa Plumby (Andrew Katerakis) and Michelle Plumby (Tate Nelson); great-grandchildren, Riley and Blake Nelson; and four cherished great-grand puppies. She is also survived by her “considered third son,” nephew Bob Uppenkamp (Vicki); sister-in-law, Karen Uppenkamp; nieces Deb, Denise, and Bonnie Uppenkamp; and her lifelong best friend from grade school, Dodie Barlow.
Freda was the proud owner and operator of Freda’s Beauty Shop for 56 years. She truly loved her work and treasured the relationships she built with her many loyal clients, who became friends and extended family over the decades.
She found joy in going to church with her friends, playing golf, enjoying games, and traveling with family and friends. Above all else, Freda loved her family deeply—and they loved her just as fiercely in return.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Donna Hubley and her wonderful home care team of angels, who provided exceptional care for Freda over the past several years. In December, Freda moved to Hillebrand Nursing Home in Cincinnati to be closer to her daughter Cindy, where she was soon lovingly cared for by Queen City Hospice. The family is grateful that her sister, son and daughter-in-law, and granddaughters were able to visit her before her passing.
Freda lived a life rich in love, laughter, and connection. So many love-filled memories were made throughout her 89 years, and her bright, cheerful, nurturing presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We take comfort in knowing that Freda was promoted from prom queen many moons ago to Queen in Heaven, now resting in Jesus’ arms. She may be gone from this world, but never from our hearts. We love you forever, Freda Mae.
A visitation will be held on May 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Jake Kirk officiating, at Salm–McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
Services are in the care of Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home.
