Freddie Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home in Austin/Round Rock on Jul. 20, 2023.
Frederick Joseph Smith, 91, of Austin, Texas passed away on July 15, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1931 in Austin, Texas to Frederick Smith and Mary Koenig Smith. He grew up in Austin during a time when kids learned the value of hard work and rewards of outdoor play and five cent movies at the Paramount Theater.
He attended St. Mary's Cathedral school and St. Edward's high school and worked as a carpenter before being called into service to fight in the Korean War. He was part of the 7th infantry 101st Airborne division from January 24, 1952 until October 23, 1953 and was honorably discharged.
After coming home, he married Joyce Kipp and became an Austin Firefighter for 31 years.
They had 3 children, Barbara, Robert and Brian and eventually secured land on which he personally built their home.
His many interests included photography, hunting and fishing, blue grass music and veteran and firefighter related activities.
Freddie and Joyce also enjoyed years of domino parties with friends. Freddie enjoyed family, friends and neighbors and always had a helping word of information on many topics.
He is survived by daughter Barbara Agnew and son Brian Smith, both of Pflugerville as well as granddaughters Julia, Gabrielle and great-granddaughter Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Joyce and son Robert.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Freddie's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
