Cecilia Jodene "Jodi" Moss, known lovingly by her grandchildren as "Jojo," passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 in
Austin, Texas at the age of 67.
She was born in El Paso, Texas, on February 11, 1958 to Manuel and Delphine Mojica and was one of their three children. Raised in
Austin, Texas, she shared a close bond with her brother and sister, who remained her dear friends and confidants throughout her life. As an adult, she dedicated herself to giving back to the Austin community through her work at local recreational centers and in early childcare, where she taught and inspired many children to express themselves creatively.
She was married to the love of her life, Robert Moss, for 26 years. Their marriage was filled with laughter, tenderness, and many nights spent lamenting the fortunes of the Dallas Cowboys. After his passing, Jodi demonstrated incredible emotional fortitude and continued her work in childcare. In retirement, Jodi moved to Bigfoot, Texas to assist in caring for her aging parents. Years later, she returned to Austin to be closer to her young grandchildren, where she lived until her passing.
She had two beautiful daughters, Brandy and Raven, whom she loved fiercely. Her pride in her daughters was palpable when she spoke of them, and it brought her great joy witnessing the strong, remarkable women they grew up to be.
Jodi was fearless, both in life and in love. She was not afraid to defy convention in her commitment to being wholly and authentically herself. At 65, she dyed her bright pink "just because." Three months later, it was electric blue. She brought a similar vibrancy and passion to her family life, often using her considerable artistic talent just to bring a smile to everyone's faces. Even during the pandemic, she showed her love to her distant family members by hand-illustrating elaborate cards with sparkling gel-pen drawings of sea creatures and filling them with kind words of support.
However, Jodi's dedication to her family was most obvious when sitting around the dinner table. Armed with creative, carefully crafted recipes and a "more is more" philosophy when it came to butter, even the most selective of eaters left the table full. On holidays, she could be found in the kitchen alongside her daughters and grandchildren with a smile on her face and laughter in the air. Even later in her life, while facing ongoing health challenges, she continued to join her family in the kitchen and made sure to pass down the most beloved of her recipes.
The best measure of Jodi's life is not years, but rather the joy and imagination she inspired in others, particularly her grandchildren. Jodi zealously embraced her role as a grandparent, and her impact on her grandchildren's lives is immeasurable. She sought to make every occasion special, whether by indulging them in movie nights, encouraging glittery (often messy) art projects, or sneaking them countless late-night treats. She taught them to dream, to be kind to each other, and to appreciate the strength of family. Most of all, she loved Scarlett, Wren, and Ford as she loved every member of her family – with her whole heart.
She will be remembered always for her compassion and for the joyous color she brought into the lives of everyone she met.
Jodi is survived by her father, Manuel Mojica, Jr.; daughters, Raven Eilers (Trey) and Brandy Peery (Dennis); and grandchildren, Scarlett Smith, Wren Bumpus, and William August "Ford" Eilers, IV. She is also survived by her siblings, Mark Mojica and Gina Gonzales (Orlando), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Moss; mother, Delphine Ramirez Mojica; and parents in-law, David and Marion Moss.
A Funeral Mass honoring her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E. University Ave., Georgetown, Texas 78626.
While flowers are appreciated, the family invites those wishing to honor Jodi to volunteer at or make a memorial donation to their local Meals on Wheels chapter or to donate blood in her name at their local area blood bank.
