Frederic "Phread" Ayres Obituary
Frederic M. "Phread" Ayres, 68, of Dennis, MA died unexpectedly on November 8, 2024 from a heart incident during routine surgery. His loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.
Phread was born on June 1, 1956 to Lilli and Ken Ayres in Englewood, NJ, the younger sister to Carol Ayres. Phread attended Cresskill High School. After graduating high school, Phread earned a certificate in audio engineering from the Institute of Audio Research and worked as an audio engineer with AMFM and Humans from Earth. He worked for many years in the camping department at Ramsey Outdoor Store, before going back to school, finishing in 2003, to start his beloved career as a middle school science teacher. Phread went on to earn a masters in educational technology from Ramapo College in 2011. Phread loved teaching and working with young people, spending many years as a youth advisor at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood. In June 1985, Phread married his beloved wife Helen and they went on to have two beloved children, Genna and Marcy. Phread loved being a dad and adored both his children and their partners, Vashti and Josh. He was beyond proud of all of them, and was happy to be an extra dad to all of Genna and Marcy's friends or anyone who just needed a Dad for a moment. Anyone who knew Phread, knew that he was a kind, loving, wonderful person who always had time to chat. In his retired years, he and Helen spent a lot of time bird watching, kayaking, visiting beautiful scenery, and generally being in love. Phread's family and friends will miss him more than words can say.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:00pm on Saturday November 16, 2024 at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ 07450. If you cannot attend, the service will be streamed on zoom.
Contributions in memory of Phread can be made to the Campaign for Southern Equality online at southernequality.org or by mailing your check made payable to "CSE" to: CSE, PO Box 364, Asheville, NC 28802.
