Obituary of Frederick L. Casey, Jr.
Fredrick L. Casey Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was 66 years of age.
Fred was the beloved husband of Kathleen "Kathy" (Sweeney) Casey, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. Born in Somerville and raised in Woburn, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lillian (Lentz) Casey Sr.
He graduated from Woburn High School with the class of 1975 and continued his education at Salem State College. As a teenager, Fred began working part time for Star Market in Porter Square and earlier this year celebrated 50 years of service there. He was also employed by the Central Cooperative Bank as the Assistant Vice President for several years before starting a 35 year career with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in Woburn, retiring in 2020. Fred was an active Union member and served for over 30 years as a Shop Steward for Branch 34 of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).
An avid golfer, Fred had a decades long passion of organizing yearly golf trips with his friends and was tremendously instrumental in the success of the NALC Branch 34 annual golf tournament to benefit The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Fred was genuine fan of all sports. He played baseball, football, and hockey in his youth and coached both boys and girls youth hockey in Woburn for many years. He was a lifelong fan of all the Boston based sports teams with his favorite players being Tony Conigliaro and Bobby Orr. His true passion though, was for the Bruins where he was a longtime season ticket holder.
Most importantly, Fred was a man of faith and was devoted his family. He enjoyed sitting on the beach while spending time on Cape Cod, traveling with his family and received much joy from spending time with his grand-dogs Moe, Rue and Arnold.
In addition to his wife Kathleen, Fred is survived by his loving children; Kyleen Casey of Boise, ID and her partner Peter Kenyon, Brian Casey of LaPine, OR, Kevin Casey of Quincy and Corey Rose Casey of Woburn; his Mother In-Law Ruth Sweeney of Woburn; his Sibling's In-Law: Christopher and Patricia Riel, Gerard and Shelley Sweeney, John and Carol Woloski, Phillip and Karen Strack, Sean and Timberly Sweeney; and eight nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his Father In-Law Gerard Sweeney and his beloved Uncle William Casey.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 6 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Funeral from the Funeral Home at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara's Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
