Frederick Patrick DeLeon, 56, of New York, New York passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at New York University Hospital after a valiant and graceful fight against numerous health issues over many years.

Fred was a loving, adventurous, thoughtful, and spontaneous family man. He had various nicknames including: Derick, Fred, Freddo, Tito Fred, and Uncle Tito Fred to his family and friends. He was born on March 16, 1966 to Dr. Francisco and Florita DeLeon in Newark, New Jersey.

Fred attended Kings Park Senior High School and was a clarinet player in the marching band. Throughout high school he was also a member of two sports teams, including baseball and lacrosse. Following his graduation from high school in 1984, Fred went on to pursue a Bachelors of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business.

During his time at Carnegie Mellon University, Fred achieved many accomplishments. Not only was he part of the United States Army ROTC for 3 semesters, he was also an involved member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served as Greek Council President for the University. He formed a strong, and lifelong bond with his fellow fraternity brothers. Fred never forgot the love and support they provided him through a difficult illness. He was also the Treasurer for CMU's Student Government for 2 years, and was a proud member of the lacrosse team – serving as captain for 2 years.

After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1988, he started his professional career with Allstate Insurance where he worked as a Senior Financial Analyst and Manager for 8 years. He then worked at Atlantic Mutual Companies until July of 2002, spent some time working at AIG, and eventually moved on to serve as a Senior Financial Analyst at A.M Best Company for over 9 years. Most recently, Fred was employed at Kroll Bond Rating Agency, eventually becoming a Senior Director. He spoke fondly of his time at KBRA, expressing his appreciation to his family about the community he had found at work.

When Fred was not working he had many hobbies which included collecting stamps, coins, and baseball cards. He also enjoyed fishing. He often went on fishing trips with his friend Bill, whom he is probably spending quality time with now. One of Fred's passions through life was always traveling. You could be anywhere in the world, turn around and find Fred smiling at you. Our mother always said Fred had "itchy feet" and could never stand still, so traveling was a perfect fit for his energy and curiosity. Fred was a loyal "New Yorker" as he supported all New York Sports teams. He was an avid sports fan. He loved all kinds of sports, and "God help us all if his team was falling behind or had the misfortune to lose". He often combined his love for travel and his love for sports. Fred visited many major and minor league baseball parks, and usually came home with a memento, often a baseball cap.

Above and beyond all of Fred's interests, there was nothing more important to him than spending time with family and friends. Fred's heart was his family and friends. Additionally, Fred was a loving uncle and godfather to numerous family and friends which reflects the high regard others' held for him. He was a generous benefactor and was very empathetic and compassionate and would often donate money to children diagnosed with cancer.

Fred is survived by his father, Dr. Francisco DeLeon, his brother Dr. Fernando DeLeon and his wife Regina DeLeon, his sister Kathleen Kuzbari and her husband Karim Kuzbari, and his 3 beautiful nieces: Zoe and Tea Kuzbari, and Isabella DeLeon. He was predeceased by his mother Florita DeLeon. Fred has left a void in his family's and friends' hearts and will be greatly missed.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from noon until 3pm at Andrett funeral home: 199 Bleecker St., New York, NY 10012. Following the service there will be a celebration of Fred's life at Carroll Place: 157 Bleecker St., NY, NY 10012 from 3pm - 5pm.
