Frederick Humphreys Fears, Jr., affectionately known as "Rick," passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at 79. He was born on December 20, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Ocean City, Maryland. Rick was the son of the late Frederick H. Fears, Sr. and Lorna K. Fears. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Baby Fears. He is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Scarlett D. Fears; his daughters, Helen Young (Mark Travis) and Jennifer Lewis (Doug); five grandchildren, Megan Tillman (Spencer), Hannah Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Mason Lewis, and Mallory Young; and two great-grandchildren, Declan and Xander. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Magruder, brother Karl Fears (Linda), and sister Lisa Bryant. Rick was the proud owner of FHF Construction, where he built countless homes across the Eastern Shore before retiring at an early age of 45. After retirement, he and Scarlett enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome, creating cherished memories together. A lifelong sportsman, Rick was passionate about hunting and skeet shooting. He was a member of the Salisbury Gun Club since 1965 and earned an impressive record in competitive skeet shooting. Over his career, he was named to 18 All-American Teams (1985–2009) and 36 Maryland State Teams. He was inducted into the Maryland Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1998. Rick shot more than 250,675 registered targets across 37 states and Canada, participating in several World Skeet Competitions winning World Championships in his class and honorable mentions. Locally, a perennial club champion at the Salisbury Gun Club, the club honored him each year with the Rick Fears 28-Gauge Classic-a fitting tribute to his love for the sport. True to form, Rick always preferred shooting his.28 gauge, even in the 12, 20, and 28 gauge events. Rick passed away at Chesapeake Manor after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. The Fears family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Chesapeake Manor and the team at Coastal Hospice for their exceptional care and support. A small private service will take place at the family cemetery per Rick's request. Letters of condolence can be sent to the family via www.burbagefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are in the care of The Burbage Funeral Home.
