Frederick Peter Herceg, 83, of Aberdeen SD passed away on Thursday, November 13th, 2025. There will be no formal services held at his request.
Fred was born on June 5th, 1942, in Denver Colorado to Fred August Herceg and Agnes O'Rourke. He graduated Mullen High school, continued his education graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and eventually receiving a Master of Teaching. Fred was a dedicated educator who instilled both practical skills as well as the lifelong lesson in taking pride in everyday activities and executing them to the best of your ability. Exemplifying these principles, Fred was an avid and talented woodworker and metal worker. When Fred was not out fishing or supporting his boys in the many sporting activities, you could always find him in his workshop, working on his next piece of art. He opened Branding Iron Woodworks and created high quality pieces known for function and beauty. He created sunflowers from horseshoes and brake drums, pig planters out of propane tanks, and a little bit of everything in between. There were no shortcuts taken, or things left half done, and that is the same gusto with which Fred lived his life. He enjoyed being in the shop, whether it was fixing, creating, or teaching. Whether it was with his children, grandchildren, or students, Fred coached and encouraged everyone around him to always give their absolute best.
Fred met his soul mate and the love of his life, Jane Ohman, and they were married on July 17, 1976, and began their life together in Arvada, Colorado. Together, they raised three boys, Aaron, David, and Matthew.
Fred is survived by his sons, Aaron (Bridget) Herceg, David (Megan) Herceg, Matthew (Mackenzie) Herceg, and his grandchildren; Fiala, Hunter, Daij, Darion, and Norah.
Preceding Fred in death was his wife, Jane Herceg, his parents, Fred and Agnes Herceg, and his grandson Jacob Herceg.
