Frederick Knous Obituary

Frederick R. Knous
Mar. 24, 1938 - Nov. 7, 2025
Frederick Robert Knous of Portland, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2025, at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Amy (Charpentier) Knous for 43 years.
Born in New Haven, Fred (a.k.a. Fred-Bob) was the son of the late Frederick Knous and May (Edele) Knous. He earned degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Hartford. Fred began his professional life as a guidance counselor in Middletown, Connecticut, where he touched the lives of many students. He later embarked on a second career in government affairs and lobbying, representing a wide range of clients with integrity, creativity, and a commitment to collaboration. At the time of his retirement, he was associated with David Evans Associates.
Fred was deeply involved in public service and local government throughout his life. While living in Clinton, he served on the Board of Education and as Town Treasurer. He went on to serve two terms in the Connecticut State Senate representing the 33rd District, as well as several terms as a Selectman in Portland, and participated on numerous town boards and commissions.
Fred will be remembered for his optimism, easygoing nature, and wonderful sense of humor. He and Amy shared a rich and full life surrounded by family and friends. They traveled extensively – Germany, France, Alaska, and Ireland were among their favorites. They treasured their time at their home on Block Island, where they enjoyed entertaining loved ones, walking the beach, watching sunsets, and simply relaxing together. Some of Fred's passions included a lifelong love of sports (especially horse racing), gardening, reading, history, playing blackjack and spending time with his feline companions. In addition to his wife Amy, Fred is survived by his three loving daughters: Marcia Knous of Ormond Beach, Florida; Daria Knous of San Jose, California; and Kristin Knous and her partner Gene Pence of Sarasota, Florida; his sister Cheryl Hurst of Hamden; as well as many loving cousins and dear friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury. A memorial service celebrating Fred's life will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, November 14, 2025, in the funeral home.
