Frederick "Freddie" Meyer, 85, of Walnut Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia.
Freddie was born on Saturday, March 4th, 1939, the son of Fred A. Meyer and Coreda (Smith) Meyer. He married Linda Crane on April 21, 1962 and she survives him in Walnut Hill.
In addition to his wife Linda of 62 years, he is survived by three sons: Jerry Meyer (Maria) of Peru, IL, Jeff Meyer (Corrine) of Lake Tahoe, NV, and Steve Meyer of Centralia; a grandson: Justin Meyer of Maryville, IN; brothers: Jim Meyer (Erika) of Breese and John Meyer (Sherry) of Centralia; brother-in-law: Randy Crane (Beverly) of Centralia; sisters-in-law: Pam Meyer of Centralia, Dee Bourland of Centralia, and Karen Smith of Casey, IL; also surviving is many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Coreda Meyer; two brothers: Ed Meyer and George Meyer; sisters: Mary Hall, Rose Brassel, Linda Kampwerth, Nancy Womble, Elna Nichols, and Margaret Meyer.
Freddie lived a full life enriched by love, laughter, and numerous friendships. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. He enjoyed woodworking, making wishing wells, wheelbarrows, and furniture for his family and friends and old cars, with Ford F-150's being his favorite. Freddie served in the U.S. Army. He will be remembered for his time spent with his "brothers" at the American Legion. Freddie was known for his warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Funeral Services for Frederick "Freddie" Meyer will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Anthony Sweeney officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia with Military Rites accorded at the grave by the American Legion Post 446 and the V.F.W. Post 2055. In memory of Freddie, memorial donations may be made to the Calumet Street Christian Church or to the American Legion Post 446 in Centralia, and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Meyer family.
