Frederick Nelson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle Funeral Home on Jan. 23, 2026.
Frederick Leggett Nelson, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 18th, 2026.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 31st at 2:00 pm at Gold Point Christian Church, located at 19947 NC Hwy 903, Robersonville, NC 27871.

Fred was born April 22, 1942 to Robert B. Nelson and Mae Dell Leggett Nelson of Robersonville, NC. He grew up in Robersonville, the oldest of 5 siblings, helping his family, working, and graduating from Robersonville High School.

Fred married his life long love, Frankie Warren and they lived in Robersonville, in the Wake County area, mainly Wendell, NC, then back to Robersonville. They had two children, Rae and Frederick Jr., and were very active in the church, holding many leadership roles, in the family and community, including the Recreational League. He also enjoyed tennis, camping, fishing, cooking out for family, friends, and neighbors. He, of course, enjoyed the NC State Wolfpack football and basketball teams.

Fred loved the Lord first and held his faith, unshakable, praying often each day. He had a heart of gratitude and true love, despite the many challenges he faced each and every day. Family, both immediate and extended, was an integral part of his life. He held dear his siblings and Frankie's family, which was now as his own. He enjoyed visiting with them, at family get togethers and reunions. There was no 'distant family', just family, as he had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews he loved and enjoyed seeing.

Married for nearly 65 years to Frankie W. Everett Nelson, they were each other's rock and companion. Together they had 2 children - son Frederick L. Nelson Jr. with whom he shared many passions, including sports, especially tennis and NC State Wolfpack teams. Sadly Frederick Jr. passed away in 2014 and has been missed tremendously. And now they are together. They also have a daughter Rae (David) of Conetoe, and two granddaughters, Emilee Moore of Raleigh and Alanna Moore of Wilmington. A spark of joy would come over him each and every time he saw them.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Robert B. Nelson and Mae Dell Nelson, son Frederick L. Nelson Jr., and sister Margaret Nelson Wynne.

Fred is survived by his wife, Frankie E. Nelson, daughter Rae, and granddaughters Emilee Moore of Raleigh and Alanna More of Wilmington, Brothers Joe (Nanci) Nelson of Clayton, Benny (Shelby) Nelson of Greenville, and sister Dell (Jimmy) Nelson Haywood of Bear Grass.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the NC Heart Association/American Heart Association in Honor of Frederick L. Nelson - https://www.heart.org or by check to P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Tx 75284-0692.
The family expresses their deep gratitude and thanks for everyone's love, care, and support.
Blessings to all!
