Frederick Ralston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations on Mar. 14, 2022.
Frederick Langill Ralston, 83, of Mt. Dora, FL passed away on March 11, 2022, in Tavares, FL. He was born on January 17, 1939 in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Fred was a former machinist who became a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing for 42 years. He specialized in working with children who had multiple disabilities in addition to deafness, teaching mainly in Massachusetts and Florida.
Fred loved fishing, woodworking and was an avid reader. We would always joke that the amount of books in our home would rival those in the Library of Congress, reading at least 2-3 books a week. He was always involved in any project that included teaching his grandchildren the fine art of woodworking. Fishing and enjoying the company of others was a passion especially when the fish were biting and the conversation was about History.
Fred was a member of the National Guard. He had fond memories of his days at Camp Wellfleet in Massachusetts during this time.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Ralston of Mount Dora, a daughter, Sheila Byrne of Elizabeth City, NC, a son Jesse Ralston also from Elizabeth City, NC, 4 grandchildren, Dominic, Nicholas, Hailey, and Allyson and 2 great grandchildren Evermore and Claire. Also predeceased by one grandchild, Ava. Steverson Hamlin and Habish of Tavares, Fl. is in charge of funeral arrangements. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, March 21 from 4-8. A memorial mass is scheduled at St. Timothys in Lady Lake at 8:30AM, Tuesday March 22, followed by a morning brunch. Place to be determined. A private cremation service will be held at a later time.

Sending love and hugs to Fred´s family. Fred was the best. When my family visited his family, many many times over the years, Fred was always willing to let me, his younger cousin, tag along with him to the movies or wherever he was going. He was a kind and patient man and he will be missed. The world has lost a good person. Rest In Peace Fred.

That's the cool part of families, you befriend one, you get a whole bevy of new friends, like a two for one deal.

I was that lucky.

While I worked with Karen, oh, boy, Fred was included in all that wonderment and connection! He made our recent move to sunny Central Florida all the more interesting, with his delicious tales (of which he had many) of life here and beyond.

That was Fred.

He truly had experienced a lifetime, even by the time we had met him. He had stories from everywhere and everyone, collecting them like one might collect stamps or pressed flowers. It was no surprise that he read two to three books a week.

More stories and tales.

And like every good story and tale, the spirit of the narrative lives on in our hearts and minds.

So will our memories of Fred.

He will be missed. But he will never be forgotten.

Peace my friend.

Peace to you and yours.

Much love.
